Situated in the heart of the village of Sunniside, neighbouring Marley Hill and Whickham. Sunniside has a large park and nearby attractions include Beamish Museum and the Tanfield Railway.
Relax in our Dog Friendly Café and take your time to enjoy our delicious, Homemade Food and Treats from our Specialist Bakers, with a pot of Tea or Selection of Coffees.
Sunniside Courtyard Café is the perfect place to catch up with Family and Friends. With a Warm Courtyard and Cosy Spaces inside, you can choose where to enjoy some Sweet and Savoury Delights.
Along with our Local Suppliers, Sunniside Courtyard Café offers some delicious Homemade Soups and favourites like our Homemade Corned Beef Pie & Chips. While deciding which of our Tasty Deserts to choose from, like our Carrot and Chocolate Cake or Red Velvet and Victoria Sponge.
Located at the junction of Beech Street and Gateshead Road, next door to Sunniside Methodist Church. FREE PARKING is available (on site) subject to availability. You can also find spaces across the road on Alexandra Terrace or around the corner on Kingsway.

About Us

My wife Vicki, Brother-in-law (Darren) and I (Michael) are forever grateful to have been entrusted with the responsibility of caretaking what use to be Sidegate Gallery.

Our story began after getting married and buying our first home as Husband and Wife in July 2022, in Sunniside. After which we decided what better way to meet the local community by offering to serve them, through their beloved café and gift shop (Sidegate), now Sunniside Courtyard Café, Boutique & Gift Shop.

After talking the Brother-in-law into joining us, Sunniside Courtyard Café was complete. However, the building and its uses dates back long before we came along. First as a Butchers, then Picture Framing Shop and finally the Café and Gift Shop you see today.

Art

We showcase a wide range of Art for purchase, including Ceramics, Glass Art, Drawings and Paintings. Where possible we choose to showcase Local Artists. Pop in to view our entire collection.

Boutique

Home of Shabby Chic, we specially curate a collection of clothing for our customers. Our pieces are usually one offs, unique and therefore with only one of each item they are highly sought after. Pop in to view our entire collection.

Food & Drink

Our menu provides a wide choice including our All Day Breakfast, Breakfast Ciabatta, Bacon, Bacon & Egg or Sausage & Egg Sandwiches, Ham, Cheese & Onion Toasties, Cheese or Fruit Scones served with Butter, Jam or both.
Everyone’s favourite the Mother-in-law’s Homemade Corned Beef Pie, Cheese & Onion Quiche, Burgers, Fish & Chips, Selection of Jacket Potatoes, Paninis and Sandwiches on Artisan Bread. As well as our Homemade Soups served with Speciality Bread and Freshly made Salad Bowls, made to order.
For Sweet Treats try our delicious range of cakes, including Carrot & Chocolate Cake, Red Velvet and Victoria Sponge. We have made sure there is something for everyone.

Gift Shop

We always have a wide variety of gifts in stock for every occasion including cards, candles and trinkets we have something for everyone and for every occasion. Our stock is constantly changing, catering for Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Father’s and Mother’s Day, and even Valentines for the romantics amongst us. Pop in to view our entire collection.

Choosing Second-Hand is Better for Your Wallet, Wardrobe, and the Climate (no electrical items please).
Which is why we have decided to Help Our Amazing Community, by offering to Stock and Sell Your Preloved Treasures (subject to condition). Allowing someone else the opportunity to buy and appreciate them for a little longer.
